Description

The Paramedic Practice and Standards Manager is a new position within the regulatory functions of the Alberta College of Paramedics (ACP/the College), the regulatory organization for the paramedicine profession in Alberta.

This position is a leadership role designed to support the regulatory functions of the College by developing, aligning and analysing all aspects of paramedicine practice and standards as related to leading practice within the examination, continued competence, and education program approval portfolios. This position requires an individual that is hands-on but is also a strategic thinker, able to provide relevant and timely information for informed decision-making regarding the pillars of self-regulation.

Reporting directly to the Associate Registrar, and working in collaboration with the team of ACP managers in the regulation of practice, this role is accountable for ensuring ACP practice standards reflect current practice through the following :
• develop and set the standards for practice and for entry-to-practice examinations
• structure objective clinical examinations
• develop, maintain and disseminate practice statements to stakeholders
• develop processes for changing, maintaining and updating the Alberta Occupational Competency Profile, as well as interpreting the National Occupational Competency Profile
• liaison with practitioners, AHS, AHW and other stakeholders to communicate practice advice and determine scope of practice for all levels of pre-hospital care
• develop and implement process for documenting and analyzing practice advice in the form of practice statements and ensure their communication to stakeholders
• provide clinical, professional expertise to ACP team regarding current practice and available evidence
• integrate the provincial examination process with current practice expectations by ensuring that the domain of knowledge being examined reflects current work practice
• develop and implement linkages between the Continuing Competence Program and educational program approval curriculum by ensuring that standards are up to date and consistent across the range of activities undertaken by ACP
• effectively participate in strategic planning and forecasting
• actively participate in senior management decisions

Qualifications:
• EMT-P registered in good standing with the Alberta College of Paramedics
• Alberta-trained paramedic with a minimum of 8 years experience as ALS provider
• a minimum of graduate-level (Masters) degree in related field of adult education and program evaluation (preference will be given to those individuals with higher graduate level of PhD degree or candidacy in related field of adult education)
• a minimum of 5 years experience in paramedicine program development, delivery and evaluation
• a minimum of 5 years experience in manager/leadership role within EMS industry

Assets:
• team oriented, collaborative, relationship building experience in related field
• verbal and written communication skills
• project management and stakeholder consultation within paramedicine
• working knowledge of paramedicine EMS operations and College stakeholders
• demonstrated ability to produce deadline-driven outcomes with minimal supervision and under dynamic circumstances
• demonstrated experience with provincial and national paramedicine research initiatives
• ability to interpret available research evidence to inform team decision-making model and influence provincial and national research
